Gary and Jean Prescott

Jean’s most recent awards include the Western Music Association’s 2006 Best Musical Collaboration and the prestigious American Cowboy Culture Award for Western Music from the National Cowboy Symposium also in 2006. She is one of the top five female vocalists of 2007 and her latest release, “Sweethearts in Carhartts”, as well as one song from the album were in the top five albums and songs of 2007. Her rich alto voice graces an interactive music exhibit at the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas, and she has been honored by the Texas State Legislature for her contribution to the preservation of Texas music and history.
This songbird of the prairie is a big hit at western events all over the country with her unique style and lovely voice. And, the best thing about Jean’s music is that not only is it highly entertaining, but most of her songs are written about real people and real experiences. The feeling with which she sings those songs gives her audiences the real flavor of the west.
Jean accompanies herself on her custom made Pimental guitar and sometimes entertains with her group called “The Sweethearts in Carhartts”. Whether she graces a concert stage or an evening campfire, Jean Prescott’s music is always toe tappin’ good
Put two people together who love the cowboy way of life and singing and writing about it and you’ve got the perfect combination for making some of the best cowboy music around today. Gary and Jean met at the Texas Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Alpine, Texas, in 1993, and in 1994 they tied the knot and the rest is history.
Gary was raised on a ranch in Southeast Texas and Jean grew up way out in West Texas on a quarter horse ranch. Between the two of them they have written many cowboy songs that have been recorded by some of the best cowboy and cowgirl singers from coast to coast and Canada.
On stage they present a magical combination of rough and tough cowboy songs and lovely lilting songs about the sweethearts who love those rugged cowboys. Those songs are intertwined by the harmonies of Jean’s rich, sweet alto voice and Gary’s rugged authentic cowboy voice. Their songs have been referred to as “the spiritual essence of the west”. But, most of all they enjoy sharing their music with people and they have a lot of fun doing it!
Gary’s song “Fair Blows the Wind” was named 2005 Western Music Album of the Year by the prestigious Academy of Western Artists, and Jean is a multiple award winning singer.
Dedicated to pursuing the way of life they love, Gary and Jean make their home near Abilene, Texas, where they raise quarter horses and continue to write and sing about the cowboy way of life.
