Violins

Master craftsman Tone and Workmanship. Stan Schmidt has applied his many years of structural engineering, physics and acoustical testing experience to his luthier skills to develop his instrument designs. His instruments are still painstakingly handmade in the old Italian tradition. The results of his hard labor have paid off with the successful development of his line of stringed instruments with enhanced deep, rich, and complex tones.

The Finest Tonewoods. For the past 15 years, Stan has been building a stockpile of the finest aged European and North American tonewoods to allow them to stablizie in Albuquerque's dry environment. Our low humidity makes this a great place to make stringed instruments that will remain stable on the road. Two years ago, Stan procured a fantastic piece of aged 300+ year old flamed French pear wood -- from a quarter sawn tree, that was well over three foot in diameter (large enough for cellos). The natural color is dark salmon-pink with tiger striping, with all the correct material properties to produce the finest stringed-instruments. Stan has just started making a viola using this beautiful tonewood. Pimentel and Sons would be proud to show you some of his beautiful instruments.
